Makunudhoo Isdharivarunge Jamiyya Comes To Existence!

The association was formed in September 2005 with the objectives of promoting awareness among the people of Makunudhoo, especially in the development of education in the island.

The first educational institution in the island (Makunudhoo Makthab) was born half century ago. In 1988 the institution’s name was changed to Makunudhoo School with a major change in the structure and method of coaching. In fact, that was the beginning of the modern education in the island. There were around 250 students back then. The medium of instruction was Dhivehi. And there were 1 class from each grade from Grade 1 to Grade 5. No major improvement in the educational standard of the island has been noticed since 2003.

In 2003 secondary education was introduced to the school with only 1 class of Grade 8. From the year onwards the medium of instruction was changed from Dhivehi to English. Now there are around 400 students studying from grade 1 to grade 9.

The school’s development is very slow when compared with other schools in the neighboring islands. The resources in the school are not enough to meet the demands of the growing number of students. New resources in the form of better library and laboratory are of extreme importance to the school.

Makunudhoo Madharusaage Isdharivarunge Jamiyyaa (Makunudhoo School’s Alumnae Association) is formed to offer the support of the former students of the school in development of education in the island. In addition to the concern about the education of the island, the association’s other objectives are

· Create awareness among parents with respect to importance of education & training.

· Provision of optional & additional academic materials to island school in order to enhance the school’s educational level & convenience.

· Create sports opportunities and conduct/assist such activities with an academic view to improve students’ extra co-curricular activities.

· Seek financial back-up to improvise the associations needs.

Volunteer in community activities.

The association is an independent body working on voluntary basis. It will try its best to achieve its objectives with voluntary help from its members and other organizations. It seeks instructions and guidance from the management and teachers of the school and the authorities of the island.

The member ship is opened to all those who have studied from Makunudhoo school (from 1988 or later). The members should be willing to work on voluntary basis and should respect the culture and unity of the society.

The association expects the needy corporation from Makunudhoo office, school, Umeedhee Club, Zuvaanunge jamiyyaa and the whole society of makunudhoo.
